Six different configurations make the DSP-1760 fiber optic gyro a highly adaptable, easy-to-integrate solution for meeting a wide range of navigation and stabilization applications. The DSP-1760 allows the end user to combine 1, 2, or 3 axes of the world’s smallest precision fiber optic gyros (FOGs) within a compact yet robust package weighing less than 0.6 kg (1.3 lbs.). Adding to the versatility, two different interfaces are available: a 15-pin Micro-D connector or a 13-pin circular bayonet connector.

Superior Reliability and Accuracy for On-the-move Operation
A high-bandwidth, low-noise sensor, the DSP-1760 features a solid state design with exceptional performance in bias stability, scale factor, and angle random walk. This navigation-grade gyro is particularly well suited for providing extremely accurate angular rate data for a variety of applications in military operational environments. It is an optimal solution for ground combat vehicles that have onboard Remote Weapons Stations that must be stabilized for reliable on-the-move-operation.

Unsurpassed Fiber Technology for Diverse Applications
The DSP-1760 uses KVH’s exclusive 170-micron E-Core ThinFiber, the world’s smallest D-shaped optical fiber. By reducing the overall diameter of the fiber to just 170 microns, the resulting E-Core ThinFiber enables a greater length of fiber to be coiled in a fixed-size bobbin, thereby dramatically increasing the accuracy of the gyros. The DSP-1760 is well suited for platform stabilization for land, sea, and aerial systems; navigation, guidance and control systems; and stabilization and navigation for unmanned and manned applications.

FAQ

A:
A rate gyro does not output accumulated angle. Instead, it outputs rate of change of angle. If the accumulated angle is desired, it would have to be integrated externally.
A:

Strong magnetic fields have the ability to cause apparent drift in the gyro bias. This is due to the Faraday effect on the laser light in the sensing coil resulting in non-reciprocal light paths. While this effect can be observed in gyros designed for precision inertial navigation systems (drift rates of less than 1 degree per hour), and can be mitigated by the use of mu-metal shielding, there have been no reported problems with KVH FOGs. If your application results in mounting a FOG near a very strong magnetic field (>50 gauss), a practical test to determine sensitivity is suggested.

A:

Yes.  The TracPhone Fleet One uses GPS positioning system by default, but you can select between GPS, Beidou (Chinese satellite navigation system), GPS and Beidou and GPS and GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System).

By reducing the overall diameter of KVH’s standard E•Core fiber, the resulting E•Core ThinFiber dramatically increases the accuracy of our standard size gyros, and produces small FOGs that deliver extremely high bandwidth and low noise.

DSP Technology
KVH’s Digital Signal Processing (DSP) electronics improve fiber optic gyro performance in such critical areas as scale factor and bias versus temperature, scale factor linearity, turn-on to turn-on repeatability, and maximum input rate.
