Rugged, high-performance INS and AHRS with embedded GPS
The KVH GEO-FOG 3D Dual commercial off-the-shelf inertial navigation system (INS) is based on the KVH high-performance Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) 1750 inertial measurement unit (IMU). Using advanced FOG-based technology, the GEO-FOG 3D Dual combines a centimeter-level precision RTK GNSS receiver and groundbreaking sensor fusion algorithms. The result is a navigation and control solution that delivers a data rate 10x faster than competing systems, and provides fast, accurate position, velocity, and attitude in the most demanding environments.

This dual antenna INS includes KVH’s 1750 IMU; three FOGS are integrated with three low-noise MEMS accelerometers, a 3-axis magnetometer, a pressure sensor, and a dual antenna GNSS receiver. This breakthrough INS and attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) offers precise, dependable navigation and control to a wide variety of unmanned, autonomous, and manned aerial, ground, marine and subsurface applications and platforms.

Reliable navigation and positioning when GPS is blocked, jammed, or unavailable
The GEO-FOG 3D Dual utilizes a unique sensor fusion algorithm more intelligent than the typical Kalman filter used in many inertial solutions. This means the GEO-FOG 3D Dual can provide loosely- or tightly-coupled IMU and GNSS integration. Designed for challenging navigation and control applications, the embedded GNSS receiver supports all the current and future satellite navigation systems including GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO and BeiDou.

The INS also features a north-seeking algorithm capable of providing accurate heading as fast as 10 seconds after power-on from a hot start, and 10 minutes from a cold start. The north-seeking algorithm runs while the INS is operating, unaffected by velocity or angular motion. This enables the GEO-FOG 3D Dual to provide precise heading in environments where magnetometers and GNSS-heading can’t be used.

The rugged GEO-FOG 3D Dual INS is designed to operate in tough environments. Its built-in performance monitoring and instability protections ensure stable and reliable data, while the embedded dual frequency Trimble GNSS receiver includes Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RAIM) to assess the integrity of satellite signals.

FAQ

A:

Strong magnetic fields have the ability to cause apparent drift in the gyro bias. This is due to the Faraday effect on the laser light in the sensing coil resulting in non-reciprocal light paths. While this effect can be observed in gyros designed for precision inertial navigation systems (drift rates of less than 1 degree per hour), and can be mitigated by the use of mu-metal shielding, there have been no reported problems with KVH FOGs. If your application results in mounting a FOG near a very strong magnetic field (>50 gauss), a practical test to determine sensitivity is suggested.

A:

Yes.  The TracPhone Fleet One uses GPS positioning system by default, but you can select between GPS, Beidou (Chinese satellite navigation system), GPS and Beidou and GPS and GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System).
