KVH’s TACNAV TLS equips turreted military vehicles with an easy-to-integrate, versatile battle management, tactical navigation, and targeting solution. This affordable system supports an array of military vehicles, including cavalry, reconnaissance, armored personnel carriers, and light armored vehicles. Proven in the field on vehicles including the M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle, Bradley Linebacker, and UK Scimitar, TACNAV TLS offers a range of capabilities, including far target location, GPS backup and enhancement, vehicle position, hull and turret azimuth, and steer-to/cross-track error displays.

When linked to a digital Battle Management System (BMS), TACNAV TLS can also provide the force commander with continuous, jam-proof position data to improve operational effectiveness. With its versatile displays, BMS interface, and T•FOG upgrade capability (when greater precision is required), TACNAV TLS brings a new level of flexibility and performance to armored vehicle navigation.

The TACNAV TLS is controlled by the Arms Export Control Act (Title 22, USC Sec 2751 et seq.) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, ITAR, 22 CFR 120-130, and may not be exported from the United States or disclosed to a foreign person in the united States except as authorized by those regulations.

FAQ

A:
Yes. The T-FOG Upgrade is designed for easy integration with the widely fielded TACNAV TLS system. Once integrated with TACNAV TLS, the fiber optic gyro-based T-FOG Upgrade provides a variety of accuracy and performance improvements, including:

- improves target location from 300+ meters to 75 meters at 5 km range
- improves DR accuracy from 3% to 1% of distance traveled
- improves pointing accuracy from 35 mils to 10 mils
A:
Unfortunately, there is nothing that can correct for wheel slippage in the odometer feed as it relates to dead reckoning. However, TACNAV does compare its calculated distance against the distance traveled according to GPS. If there is a discrepancy between the two, TACNAV will temporarily adjust the odometer calibration factor to compensate for the difference.
A:
Both TACNAV Light and TACNAV TLS provide critical navigation data to military vehicles worldwide, with dead reckoning capability of 2-3% distance traveled. TACNAV Light is designed for use aboard non-turreted vehicles, such as those in the infantry carrier, command and control, scout, HMMWV, smoke, and ambulance fleets. TACNAV TLS is designed for turreted vehicles, and is capable of linking to a laser range finder to provide far target location to within >300 meter at 5 km. In addition, TACNAV TLS can be upgraded with the T-FOG Upgrade, which adds fiber optic gyro precision and accuracy to this field-proven system.
A:
Power lines have an insignificant effect on the TACNAV compass, unless you are next to a large substation with transformers. The lines themselves are typically too high to affect the compass. However, they may interfere with GPS reception.

Exclusive Technology

The T•FOG Upgrade

The T•FOG upgrade adds the accuracy of a fiber optic gyro (FOG) to the TACNAV TLS system. By supplementing the data stream with precise, short-term heading input from the T•FOG, GPS position is smoothed and improved dramatically. And with input from TACNAV’s digital compass, the system provides backup dead reckoning automatically, even when GPS is fully blocked, ensuring 100% availability of critical navigation data. With its integrated GPS/FOG blended navigation capability, the T•FOG upgrade improves heading accuracy of TACNAV TLS from 3˚ to better than 0.5˚, even while on the move.

  • Dead reckoning accuracy to within 1% of distance traveled for up to 20 minutes, 2.5% indefinitely
  • True heading accuracy of >0.5˚ (GPS-aided), whether stationary or on the move
  • Improves far target location accuracy from >150 m CEP to >41 m CEP @ 5 km
  • Enhances GPS accuracy while providing dynamic heading capabilities
  • Enables automatic “drive and calibrate” functions
