MIDDLETOWN, RI – March 29, 2001 – Featherlite, Inc. (Nasdaq: FTHR) the largest luxury bus conversion manufacturer in the United States, has chosen KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) as its primary supplier of in-motion satellite television systems. KVH’s TracVision® L3 will be offered on all new 2001-2002 Featherlite Vantaré™ and Featherlite Vogue™ motorcoaches, as well as being offered as a retrofit product through the Featherlite service centers.
TracVision L3 is a vehicle-mounted, low-profile antenna that delivers satellite television and audio from DIRECTV®, the DISH Network™, or other high-powered DVB-compatible satellite systems worldwide while the vehicle is in motion. These new satellite services provide hundreds of stations of exceptionally high-quality digital programming throughout the continental United States and in parts of Mexico and Canada. Programming includes news, sports, weather, movies, and other entertainment commonly found on cable TV systems. In addition, there are dozens of channels of commercial-free CD-quality music catering to almost every taste as well as Internet-style data broadcast services.
Conrad Clement, Featherlite’s president and CEO, explained the selection of KVH and the TracVision L3, “We select the most innovative and reliable equipment available to complement our Featherlite Vantaré and Featherlite Vogue motorcoaches and help make them the finest vehicles available. The KVH TracVision L3 product has virtually eliminated any problems we ever had with other in-motion satellite television systems. We strongly recommend them with every coach we sell."
Featherlite is the largest manufacturer of bus shell conversions and high-end luxury motorcoaches in the United States. Bus shell conversion motorcoaches are the most luxurious of all recreational vehicles. They represent a unique market niche, with selling prices ranging from $400,000 to $1,000,000 or more. The Featherlite Vogue and Featherlite Vantaré motorcoaches offer customers the ultimate in luxurious accommodations, appointments, features, and amenities. Customers for these coaches include entertainers, sports teams, coach leasing companies, and corporations, as well as affluent individuals.
“Featherlite is committed to producing the finest luxury motorcoaches in the world,” said Jim Dodez, KVH vice president of marketing. “They worked closely with us, providing their specific requirements during the design of our original land mobile antenna system. We consider their selection of our new TracVision L3 as standard equipment on their Featherlite Vantaré and Featherlite Vogue motorcoaches to be a real tribute to the quality and performance features KVH has designed into its land mobile satellite television systems.”
Operation of the TracVision L3 is totally automatic. While the vehicle is in motion, the TracVision L3’s gyro-stabilized antenna accurately and continually tracks the satellites that broadcast television services. At the same time, KVH’s integrated DVB technology provides instant and foolproof identification of the satellite being tracked, ensuring that TracVision L3 provides an uninterrupted lock on the satellite transmission. Another benefit of its DVB compatibility is that the system will even switch to a second satellite when necessary to receive local or premium programming broadcasts from a different satellite at another orbital location. With its minimal 14-1/2" height and 32" diameter footprint, TracVision L3 is an attractive addition aboard most vehicles. Nationwide service is available through an extensive national support network.
