Professional Grade Trucks to be Featured on MNF and at Game Sites
DETROIT, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- As the NFL Football seasons kick off, GMC is blitzing the airwaves with initiatives designed to capture the interest of football fans, including an unprecedented product placement on the trademark Hank Williams "Are You Ready For Some Football?" opening of ABC's Monday Night Football.
The new opening, which first airs Thursday night to kick off the inaugural game of the 2004 NFL season, includes shots of a GMC Sierra Crew Cab and a Yukon XL Denali, representing the first time a company's product has been featured in the opening.
A promotion tied to the product placement will direct consumers to watch the opening segment to Monday Night Football, read the license plate message on the Sierra and Denali, and enter it at ESPN.com for their chance to win a trip to the ESPY awards. The promotion will be advertised primarily in USA Today and on ESPN.
"This is a big part of GMC's broader sports strategy to reach the millions of football fans who attend or watch games on television every week," said Steve Rosenblum, GMC Marketing Director. "GMC has historically used 'HomeLife' as our promotional platform, but we're expanding in the 'Sports' corridor to broaden our reach."
In conjunction with the Thursday night opener, GMC is creating a "Professional Grade" Tailgate Party in a parking lot near Gillette Stadium, the site for the opening game between the World Champion New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.
The vehicle remains the center of the party featuring the versatility of an Envoy XUV, the ample cargo space of the Yukon XL Denali and the power source capabilities of the Sierra Hybrid.
The Envoy XUV, GMC's sport utility with more utility, has a power sliding rear roof for easy access and open-air tailgating and all-weather cargo area with a quick drain system. The cargo area will be used for ice and beverage storage during the party.
The Yukon XL Denali offers 45.7 cubic feet of cargo volume for easy transporting of tailgating gear. The Denali will serve as multi media center at the party highlighted by a KVH Mobile Satellite System which will sit atop of the Denali. The KVH satellite will downlink an unlimited number of programming from around the world into a Panasonic Plasma HDTV. The TV will be positioned in the cargo area along with an X Box Game System and a Bose 3- 2-1 Series II DVD Player. Camping chairs with drinkholders and footrests will be placed at the rear of the Denali for comfortable viewing.
The Sierra Hybrid, the world's first hybrid pickup truck, is the only truck that will give hardcore tailgaters the advantage of powering heaters, refrigerators and several big screen TVs on a built in generating station. The Sierra hybrid will serve as the power source for all electrical equipment during the party.
The gasoline/electric hybrid is approximately 10 to 12 percent more fuel efficient than the standard gasoline version. It features 120-volt AC power made available through four outlets. The Sierra Hybrid is the only truck that will give hardcore tailgaters the advantage of powering heaters, refrigerators and several big screen TVs on a built in generating station.
The astro turf carpeted tailgate setup will be rounded out with a Jenn-Air Grill which packs easily and cools fast for easy packing and unpacking, Fan Brands Barbeque grilling irons to brand chicken, steak or pork with the official logo of NFL teams, a gas powered blender, and a number of other NFL- logoed items including table cloths, dish and glassware, football helmet snack holders, flags, hot sauce, picante salsa and BBQ sauce.
GMC is conducting a Satellite Media Tour at the site on Thursday morning hosted by NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson. Dickerson will provide a tour of the site to a number of national networks. ESPN2's morning show "Cold Pizza" is scheduled to broadcast the "Professional Grade Tailgating" segment in addition to nearly 20 other TV shows and newscasts from around the country.
