Middletown, RI – May 6, 2004 – Danish shipping operator DFDS Tor Line has selected the TracVision 6 satellite TV system from KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) as its maritime satellite TV solution to help maintain crew morale aboard its RO-RO and RO-Pax liners operating in Northern European waters. TracVision 6 provides in-motion reception of hundreds of channels of digital satellite TV through a wide range of regional service, offering the crew the same selection of news, sports and entertainment that they enjoy at home. To date, seven TracVision 6 systems have been installed as part of this program. The selection of the TracVision 6 antenna over competing products was made following an extended trial installation on board the RO-RO liner “Tor Britannia”, which operates between Gothenburg, Sweden, and Immingham, England.
Commenting on the selection of TracVision 6, DFDS Tor Line stated, “Good crew morale is invaluable to our operations, helping our crews and ships operate more efficiently and minimizing turnover of personnel. We feel that by having satellite TV entertainment onboard our vessels, we are helping to improve the welfare of our crews. This is why we selected the TracVision 6. We were impressed by its reliable performance, ability to find and track the required satellites virtually wherever our vessels travel, and its ease of use. We were also very pleased with KVH’s Certified Support Network, which offers outstanding product support and gives us the confidence that the TracVision 6 and KVH will meet our needs in the years ahead.”
“We are very pleased to support DFDS Tor Line’s efforts to boost crew morale through the use of satellite TV,” said Mads Bjerre-Petersen, managing director of KVH Europe A/S. “Regional satellite TV services are an effective means of providing crews with access to news, weather, sports, and other entertainment as vessels cruise offshore. In addition to providing crew entertainment, high-bandwidth TV satellites also serve as an ideal conduit for the delivery of large volumes of data through asymmetrical Internet connections. We look forward to working with DFDS Tor Line to support its onboard entertainment and data needs in the future.”
The TracVision 6 in-motion satellite system uses a 24-inch diameter antenna combined with antenna-mounted rate gyros, CONSCAN signal strength tracking, and KVH’s integrated Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB®) technology to provide the fastest satellite acquisition and finest satellite tracking available. Compatible with regional DVB or DBS satellite services, TracVision 6 makes satellite acquisition extremely fast, easy, and completely automatic.
