Versatile New System Offers Access to High-speed Internet-via-Satellite Service via DVB IP with Fleet MPDS or GPRS Uplink
Kokkedal, Denmark – May 18, 2005 – KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) is pleased to introduce the TracNet™ 3.0 Mobile Internet Server, the next generation of KVH’s popular European mobile broadband Internet solution. TracNet 3.0 provides seamless, two-way Internet access throughout Europe. Mariners may combine broadband Internet-via-satellite downloads with a return path that uses the high-speed Inmarsat Fleet service and a corresponding KVH Tracphone® satellite communications system. As an alternative, the user may choose the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) service via a GSM network modem.
“TracNet 3.0 is a powerful and flexible new link to the Internet, e-mail, and company intranets featuring very fast data rates delivered by affordable high-powered satellite downloads, built-in networking capabilities, and extremely broad coverage areas,” explained Mads Bjerre-Petersen, managing director of KVH Europe A/S. “No other mobile Internet system can offer the range of capabilities and options built into the new TracNet 3.0, such as Internet downloads at speeds exceeding 500 kilobits per second (Kbps) and simultaneous Internet access by as many as five different users. Whether you need Internet access for business, pleasure, or vital information, the new TracNet 3.0 is your gateway, wherever you travel throughout Europe.”
The TracNet 3.0 Internet Server is the most versatile mobile high-speed Internet solution available. When combined with a TracVision® satellite TV antenna, the TracNet 3.0 receives Internet downloads at speeds exceeding 500 Kbps. Vessel owners may choose to use a Tracphone Fleet satellite communications system for a high-speed, affordable return channel as well as near-global, two-way access when beyond the broadband coverage area. As an alternative, mariners may opt to use the lower speed, more economic GSM/GPRS data service as the return channel.
No other mobile Internet system can offer the range of capabilities and options built into the TracNet 3.0 Internet Server. In addition to being compatible with multiple return path options, TracNet 3.0 connects to onboard Ethernet and wireless (802.11 b/g) networks, for added versatility and multiple user interfaces. It also supports KVH’s Velocity™ Acceleration Software, which when installed on the connected laptops or PCs, boosts data rates as much as 200-500% for the highest performance available.
Broadband Internet data is available throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, and parts of the North Sea, Black Sea, and northern Africa via transmissions from the powerful Digital Video Broadcast (DVB®) Hotbird satellite. TracNet 3.0 receives the broadband signal using one of KVH’s award winning, DVB-compatible TracVision satellite TV antennas, which also receive more than 500 channels of digital TV and audio entertainment, news, sports, weather, and business information.
“The need for access to the Internet continues to grow among yacht owners,” continued Bjerre-Petersen. “The variety of information that is available – investment and business data, sports, news, entertainment, e-mail, weather and navigational information – are all of value to our customers when they are at sea. Our new TracNet 3.0 Internet Server offers a wider selection of connections, more reliable system architecture, and more cost effective Internet-via-satellite services, making broadband Internet access an affordable and powerful option for boat owners, passengers, and crew throughout Europe. Thanks to the fully integrated combination of TracNet, TracVision, and Tracphone, KVH is the only company offering a fully integrated communications and entertainment solution for mariners throughout Europe.”
