Praised for its “excellent job of integrating complex technical information,” KVH Wins International Awards for Quality Publications and Online Communications from the Society for Technical Communication
MIDDLETOWN, RI – May 3, 2006 – When it comes to communicating well, it’s not so much what you say, it’s how you say it. In which case, KVH Industries, Inc., communicates in award-winning style according to the Society for Technical Communication (STC), the largest professional society in the world dedicated to the advancement of technical communication. The STC awarded KVH’s TACNAV® Interactive Product Demonstration CD an Award of Excellence in the 2005 International Online Communications Competition (IOCC), and awarded KVH’s TracVision® HDTV Converter for DIRECTV® Service Owner’s Manual an Award of Merit in the International Publications Communications Competition (IPCC).
“It is very gratifying to have our communication and product support efforts recognized by the Society for Technical Communication,” said Martin Kits van Heyningen, KVH’s president and chief executive officer. “We’re constantly striving to give our customers the quality information they need to make an informed decision prior to purchasing our products. After the sale, we want to be sure they understand how to use their KVH product properly so they will enjoy the best possible experience. It takes a talented team and a great collaborative effort to achieve an honor like this. The credit continues to go to our engineers, sales people, tech support, graphic design and writing teams, and others who contribute their expertise and vision to all of our communication efforts.”
KVH’s TACNAV is the most widely fielded tactical navigation system in the world – field-tested and battle-proven under the most challenging conditions. Winner of a 2005 STC IOCC Award of Excellence, KVH’s TACNAV Interactive Product Demonstration CD captured the judges’ attention with “an excellent job of integrating complex technical information with interactive features into an effective, professional presentation.” Recipient of a 2005 STC IPCC Award of Merit and lauded for its “clear, concise writing,” the TracVision HDTV Converter for DIRECTV Service Owner’s Manual explains how to extend the capability of a KVH TracVision satellite TV antenna for a boat or RV to include DIRECTV service in the increasingly popular high-definition TV (HDTV) format.
International recognition by the STC does not come easy. In order to qualify for international competition, submissions must first achieve an Award of Distinction at the regional level. In KVH’s case, the qualifying awards came through STC’s Boston/Northern New England chapters for the second consecutive year. Worldwide competition included hundreds of entries from Australia to Germany. Judges were asked to select winners in each category based on several different criteria, including content and organization, visual design, and audience and purpose.
