Customers trading in Iridium, Globalstar, AMSC/MSV and other old services to new generation maritime broadband service can enjoy $500 airtime credit from KVH
MIDDLETOWN, RI – September 17, 2009 – KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) is throwing a lifeline to the hundreds of thousands of subscribers of faltering satellite communications services by offering $500 of airtime as a trade-in allowance when upgrading to Inmarsat FleetBroadband service and a new Inmarsat-compatible TracPhone® system from KVH. This upgrade offer can be used by customers interested in trading in their old Globalstar, Iridium, or AMSC/MSV, or other regional or low earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems for the next generation in maritime satellite communications.
“Commercial vessel operators recognize that real-time broadband connections onboard their vessels are critical to reducing their costs and improving operations, whether by enabling better route planning, making faster port calls, allowing remote maintenance of equipment and computers, or allowing crews to communicate with their family and friends onshore. Leisure boaters are also increasingly looking to stay connected both for families and business,” said Jim Dodez, KVH’s vice president of marketing and strategic planning.
“Just as a 10-year old computer won’t keep up with modern computing needs, the satellite services launched a decade ago are a questionable solution to meet customers’ evolving needs for broadband connections. We’re delighted to be able to offer our customers the power of Inmarsat’s FleetBroadband service while making it easy and affordable to trade in their old equipment,” concluded Dodez.
Inmarsat’s new FleetBroadband service is provided by a trio of new satellites known as the Inmarsat I-4s. Three of the most powerful and sophisticated communications satellites ever launched, the I-4s blanket the globe with broadband service, providing Inmarsat’s legendary reliability and data rates as high as 432 Kbps well into the 2020s.
KVH is making it even simpler for mariners to get access to this next generation of satellite communications by offering exciting introductory Inmarsat FleetBroadband airtime plans as low as $59 per month. For regular users of maritime satellite service, KVH’s Inmarsat voice rates are as low as $0.79 per minute. Data services include a metered “always on” IP service that is billed by the amount of data transferred, or a streaming service with a guaranteed data rate up to 256 Kbps.
Mariners wanting to trade in their old regional or LEO systems, such as Iridium or Globalstar, enjoy the option of selecting one of KVH’s hardware and airtime packages that include Inmarsat service and antennas ranging from the new, low-priced TracPhone FB150 up through the full featured TracPhone FB500. As an added value, customers selecting the “Premium Value” Broadband Plan have the opportunity to receive free TracPhone FB150 hardware or reduced-cost TracPhone FB250 and FB500 systems.
The limited time $500 free airtime promotion runs through December 31, 2009, or for the first 100 trade-in activations, whichever comes first.
