Technician’s Pocket Guide for KVH’s TracPhone V7 and mini-VSAT Broadband Service Honored at the Society for Technical Communication’s International Technical Publications Competition
MIDDLETOWN, RI – June 10, 2009 – The TracPhone® V7 and mini-VSAT Broadbandsm service from KVH Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: KVHI), the new global standard for satellite communications, are increasingly recognized for their outstanding quality as an end-to-end satellite communications solution. In fact, KVH’s commitment to quality extends through its entire offering of products and services, right down to the documentation. This commitment was recently honored by the Society for Technical Communication (STC) with an “Award of Excellence” for the TracPhone V7 Technician’s Pocket Guide at the STC’s International Competition.
“KVH’s award-winning technical documentation is part of our comprehensive dealer and customer service experience. Awards from the Society for Technical Communication are evidence of the value we place on quality technical documentation for all of our products,” says Brent Bruun, vice president of sales and business development for KVH. “Our installing dealers have found the TracPhone V7 Technician’s Pocket Guide so useful that we are considering shipping a similar document with all new TracPhone V7 systems, for the benefit of our customers.”
The STC’s International awards are only given to those publications that have already received an Award of Distinguished Technical Communication at a regional competition (Middletown, RI-based KVH competes in the Boston/Northern New England region). Upon recognition in regional competition, technical publications must meet high standards in all or most of the areas judged in order to receive the Award of Excellence at the STC International Competition. They must clearly demonstrate an exceptional understanding of technical communication principles. The company has won several such awards since it began entering the competition in 2002, including another Award of Excellence for the TracVision® M7 Installation Guide from last year’s contest.
“KVH’s superior documentation is successful because it includes information from many sources within the company,” explains Mike Nelson, KVH’s product documentation and training manager, who created the award-winning TracPhone V7 Technician’s Pocket Guide. “KVH enters its technical documents in the annual STC competition not only in hopes of earning the Society’s honors, but also to gain useful insight about our work. The judges’ comments help us to make our documentation even better, which helps to improve dealer and customer satisfaction.”
“A great company is one where each employee excels not only at his or her own area of expertise, but also at sharing their work with the rest of the team for the best possible outcome,” says Martin Kits van Heyningen, KVH’s chief executive officer. “Mike Nelson and our technical writing team have set a high standard for the rest of us to follow – our dedication to accurate, clear technical documentation is important to the success of our dealers and the satisfaction of our customers.”
