KVH Webinar Series Covers Selecting and Fielding Modern Maritime SATCOM

The three-part series offers information for those researching, implementing, or determining the business benefits associated with offshore connectivity

MIDDLETOWN, RI – November 6, 2012 – Given the increasing importance of broadband connectivity for vessels at sea, KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) is presenting a three-part webinar series, “SATCOM 101,” to help explain the sometimes confusing world of maritime satellite communications. Commercial maritime business leaders faced with the need to optimize ship operations and reduce costs, address business challenges of crew retention and piracy, and adapt to regulatory compliance are relying on their IT professionals to provide better ways to support vessels at sea with improved connectivity.

The three-part series brings forth discussions about selecting SATCOM technology, the benefits of using broadband for a commercial maritime operation, and best practices for managing the implementation of a SATCOM and network management solution. The series is directed toward vessel managers, nautical superintendents, maritime IT professionals, operations managers, C-level management in the shipping industry, and other commercial maritime industry professionals.

The SATCOM 101 series begins with a 30-minute webinar on November 13th, followed by webinars in December and January. Each webinar is free, and registrants may attend individual webinars or the entire series. Schedule and specific topics:

  • Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 9:30 a.m. EST (2:30 p.m. GMT): “Top 5 Considerations for Selecting Maritime SATCOM Hardware & Services.” This webinar explains important characteristics of a maritime satellite communications system, including selecting the most appropriate service and antenna hardware, controlling costs, understanding data speeds and onboard network management, and more.

  • Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 9:30 a.m. EST (2:30 p.m. GMT): “Maritime SATCOM Benefits – The Enterprise Ripple Effect.” The focus of this webinar is on the extended organizational benefits provided by broadband connectivity – from bunker fuel savings, IT security, and regulatory compliance to employee recruiting and retention.
