KVH and TracVision…on land, sea, and now air!
KVH, the leader in mobile broadband satellite technology on land and sea, is bringing its expertise to an entirely new market – commercial aviation. As we have demonstrated in boats and vehicles around the globe over the last 15 years, live satellite television content like sporting events and breaking news is a compelling product for consumers. Now, passenger demand for premier in-flight entertainment is driving the expansion of live in-flight entertainment among airlines. KVH is seizing the opportunity, the next step in our evolution as a leading source for innovative mobile broadband technology on land, sea, and now in the air.
Under the auspices of a $20 million antenna development and manufacturing contract from a leading provider of live in-flight entertainment, we are embarking on a path to design, develop, and manufacture the next generation of DIRECTV-compatible satellite TV antennas, which our customer will install on narrowbody commercial aircraft operating in the United States.
To do so, we are drawing on our experience designing and manufacturing more than 150,000 mobile satellite antennas as well as our groundbreaking low-profile satellite TV antenna technology. The first new systems are expected to leave the factory in late 2008 and by early 2009, airline passengers traveling from coast to coast will be enjoying live DIRECTV programming while en route thanks to KVH’s TracVision technology. |
