First let’s do the data usage calculation to understand the requirement based on this example.  With an average download speed of 64 Kbps for one hour you would consume 28.8MB (64 Kbps x 60 sec/min x 60 min/hour)/(8 bits/byte) = 28.8MB.  With a two hour 15MB trigger BMC for the FX 1 plan a customer would trigger BMC in the first ½ hour of the download.  For the remainder of time, once BMC triggered you would be reduced to a speed of 32 Kbps (see chart above) for that two hour window.  Therefore if this is a typical scenario for this vessel then a different plan or a monthly BMC option should be considered.

Let’s try an FX 2 plan and see if that is the right plan using the same scenario.  The FX 2 plan has a two hour BMC trigger of 30MB.  In the example above the download consumed 28.8MB in an hour at an average speed of 64 Kbps, which would not have triggered BMC.

Absolutely, the V7-IP and V11-IP have 2 phone lines (V3-IP has one) and 4 LAN ports. On the V7-IP and V11-IP the ICM supports two phone lines, one for each “Voice Line” jack. As a result, the system supports two simultaneous voice calls. However, KVH offers the following optional accessories for the V7-IP and V11-IP that add additional phone lines to support three or more simultaneous calls, e.g. a Multimedia Terminal Adapter (MTA) and a Crew Calling Gateway. Voice traffic is given priority on the network over standard Internet data to ensure the highest quality voice connections at all times. Of course you will be constrained by your rate plan in terms of data and speeds.
To ensure crystal clear phone calls Crew Calling is not recommended. More than one outgoing call could sacrifice call quality due to a maximum V3-IP upload bandwidth of up to 128 Kbps. It is an option with the V7-IP and V11-IP where the maximum upload bandwidth is up to 1 Mbps.
Yes, for example, KVH antennas are 80% smaller than the 2.4 meter C-band antennas and lighter in weight than Ku-band only antennas.
Yes, all VIP-series products include KVH’s new ultra-compact Integrated CommBox Modem (ICM) with IP-enabled antenna control unit, CommBox Network Manager, ArcLight spread spectrum modem, Voice over IP (VoIP), Ethernet switch, and Wi-Fi capabilities all in a 2U unit.

The customer would give KVH a purchase order and KVH will work with the customer to schedule the work.
