Midwestern Village with a Dynamic History

The Village of Tinley Park is an historic town located 25 miles south of Chicago, with a vibrant town center, tree-lined streets, and approximately 60,000 residents. One of the fastest growing suburbs south of Chicago, Tinley Park was selected by Business Week in 2009 as the best place to raise a family in America. The town’s history includes a period of rapid growth from the 1850s through the 1920s as European immigrants settled in the predominantly rural area then known as Bremen. As with much of the American Midwest, the development of the railroad had a huge impact on the town’s growth, so much so that in the 1890s, the village was named for its first railroad station agent, Samuel Tinley, Sr. A downtown historic district exists today with buildings and boundaries dating from the 1890s.
